I cannot believe that at age of 53, I am in better shape than I have been in my entire life. I never exercised because it seemed like too much work, so instead, I allowed the pounds to add up until one day I woke up and said "NO MORE"!!
My doctor told me about her personal trainer, William Barnes. I called and within a week attended my first session. I was very apprehensive as I had never lifted anything heavier than a five pound weight, but William gave me the self-confidence and motivation to believe that I could do it and he was right. His patience, knowledge, and commitment helped me not only reach, but exceed my goals. I look good and feel great. Isn't it funny that everything I ever heard about fitness was true! My only regret is that I waited so long to make the decision to eat right and exercise. I am living proof that it is never too late to begin a fitness program.

I began my quest for a healthier, more fit body almost three years ago. I feel that I am in the best shape of my life and I owe it all to Personally Fit (because I know I would not have done it on my own.) Working with William has been great. When I started working out with William I was already determined to lose weight and become more fit. I have been working out with Chris Hill for over 3 years. I feel better physically, mentally, and emotionally due to working out. Before I started working out , I did not have much strength in my arms, but I am able to lift and do more with my arms now. After working all day long, then driving 30 minutes to come to Chris, there are times I think I can’t workout, but after I start I always feel better. As a physician, I know the importance of exercise and diet in preventing and treating many health issues. As a woman with a strong family history of diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and osteoporosis, I know I need to take care of myself. Two years ago, I began working out at Personally Fit. Chris, I love coming to “Personally Fit”! This is the first gym that I have ever been completely comfortable with. The trainers, as well as the other clients become friends and I think that is motivational for each of us. When you miss a session-everyone wants to know where you were. Having someone to answer to each week helps keep me on such a regular schedule.
I also want to let you know that the professional way that you run your business is very appreciated by all of your clients. We don’t like the atmosphere at some places-“Personally Fit” is a comfortable place to exercise, not a singles club!

Upon the recommendation of Julia Barron, I sought the services of William Barnes. Initially, I was going to work with William for six weeks. Well, 20 months later, I am still here! William has helped me change my lifestyle through proper nutrition and a fitness program that focuses on both resistance and cardio training. I’m ready to quit, I’m hot, sweaty and I feel the burn-I hear this voice: “Keep going, just two more.” I grimace and keep going. Then I hear “Good Job”, Then I decide- I guess I will come back.
An hour or so later I feel so much good energy, my attitude is more positive and I am ready to tackle the rest of the day’s problems.
I have been coming to Personally Fit for one and a half years and continue to make progress on every evaluation. ( I count not gaining any weight as progress!)
I know that I would not finish the number of reps, much less do the variety of exercises, or quality or work for the full amount of time if it were not for Kevin to guide and encourage me. I am going to celebrate my 64th birthday next month and I feel better than I did 10-15 years ago. My flexibility and endurance is so much better, not to mention a more positive outlook on life. I have been exercising (5-7 days a week) since 1991. I exercised through three pregnancies. My friends lovingly call me a “cardio-addict.” About a year ago I began weight training with Chris Hill. It is amazing to me the physical transformation. I have more muscle definition than I’ve ever had. I’m more effective with my cardiovascular workouts. This is the best shape I’ve ever been in. I wanted to work out to improve my body. But as I started working with William, I realized that getting my body healthy, was my main goal. I’ve always had a problem with high blood pressure. My experience with Personally fit has been wonderful!! After trying to gain control of my weight and shape with only a little success; I finally realized that I needed help!! I was totally stressed out about a lot of things- including how and when to workout, what and when to eat, and worst of all my tennis game going ‘south.’ My personal trainer, Chris McDowell, helps me realize my goals to be learner and healthier and a lot less stressed. Sometimes I find the old bad habits are hard to break, but ‘Rome was not built in a day’, so I just keep trying. He does push me at times, but that is what it takes. His knowledge about nutrition, experience with personal training and his great attitude motivates me to attain goals that I thought were unattainable for a woman my age (you see, I was believing the stereotypes). The bonus is how Personally Fit has affected my daily life for the better. My enthusiasm and energy help me face daily problems with a different attitude and confidence. The improved appearance and fitness level has changed my outlook and definitely helped with personal relationships. My once waning tennis game is improving and I now know that I have the stamina and strength to win those matches against younger opponents. That’s All Good!!

A year ago I was leading a far different life than I am today. My days consisted of a few short spurts of activity interspersed with long sedentary periods. It seems like only yesterday that I began a new fitness program with Chris Hill’s Personal Training on Judson Road…the beginning of a slow evolution to a complete lifestyle change for me! Immediately, my attitude about weight training changed dramatically. Instead of finding excuses not to train, I made extra efforts to keep every appointment. I felt challenged with my workouts and saw some good results. However, I did not change my eating habits, and my success stalled.
In January of 2005, I began working with Chris Hill… the beginning of a new level of fitness for me! Chris patiently and persistently explained to me the importance of nutrition during every training session. He developed a cardiovascular plan for me to go along with my weight training and my nutrition. He taught me how the trio would work together to help me maintain a healthy body. After months of stepping on the scales all too often, he FINALLY made me realize it’s not about weight! The results I’ve seen over the past 6 months have been better than I could have imagined. I have lowered my body fat percentage, increased my muscle mass, AND managed to lose a few pounds along the way (which always makes a girl happy).
Personally Fit IS more than a gym… it IS truly a lifestyle for me.

It’s hard to believe just 15 months ago I began my journey back to good health with “my trainer Kevin Buchanek”. Boy, time flies when you’re having fun and there are many times I questioned my commitment (and I’m sure he did also). To my surprise, I’ve made amazing progress, my low back is stronger, balance is better, coordination improved (could this be from all the core work he pushed me through) and … I’ve converted 13 pounds of body fat to muscle. I often end our sessions by telling him “good job- you worked hard today” – he laughs but I really appreciate his continuing patience and commitment to my health.
There are many reasons I recommend the “personal training” I receive by Kevin but I guess the most important accomplishment he has achieved is – I actually look forward to exercising – that is major progress.

To me, exercise has always been a spectator sport – watching other people strain and sweat exhausted me! But everything changed for me in May. On my birthday, I didn’t like what I saw in the mirror, but more importantly, I didn’t like the way I felt. A good friend had recommended Kevin at Personally Fit, and I went for a consultation. That day was a turning point in my life. I have been exercising with Kevin since May. I have lost pounds and gained strength and endurance. I’m proud of myself for doing something I never dreamed I was capable of. I look forward to my workouts with Kevin and actually am disappointed if I have to miss an appointment. Kevin is a great trainer and accountability partner. He is patient and encouraging, yet tough enough to not give in when I whine! Reflections on working out with Chris Hill…………
About 4 ½ years ago, I decided that I had to do something about my weight. I was unhappy, depressed, and introverted. I was heavier than I had ever been in my life and refused to attend most social functions. I wore black most of the time. So, one of my friends and I decided that we would start working out. We began with just a few free weights and the desire to get through at least three weeks of exercise. We set least three weeks as a goal because two weeks had always been my favorite quitting point. We made it!! So we went on for another week, and another, and another. Before we knew it, we had been working out for 14 weeks. I had lost some weight but I felt that I needed more direction and motivation tool. I realized that I needed to have my body fat measured as a comparison aid for before and after results. I asked some friends and one of them said that he had his body fat in Longview. I called the facility that I thought my friend had used and was connected to Chris Hill. I made an appointment and had my body fat measured by Chris; he told me that he was a certified personal trainer and was trying to get started in the business by training a few clients in the afternoon. Motivated by Chris’s personality and enthusiasm, I signed up. By the way, Chris had never heard of my friend.
Chris trained me and directed my program for the next twelve weeks through the completion of the contest. Chris explained how to change my weight program routine periodically to obtain the best results. I had not changed anything about my program during the first 14 weeks. Chris encouraged and motivated me to stick with my nutrition program and to be diligent about doing cardio at home. I succeeded by losing another 21 pounds. Originally, I was only going to work with Chris for the duration of the contest. The end of the contest hooked me hooked on personal training. This past June, I celebrated my 4th year anniversary of working out with personal trainer, Chris Hill. I have had a few setbacks regarding my fitness goals during the past four years but Chris always motivates me to continue and never give up. On days when I just don’t feel like working out, Chris encourages me with sound advice and support to get me through the day. I can only imagine what my shapes and body measurements would be today if I had not found Chris four years ago. My son often asks me “Can’t you work out by yourself yet?” I reply, “ I probably could, but would I?” I don’t think so. Personal training with Chris motivates me to exercise and has literally changed my life. I have energy, self esteem, and I only wear black when I want to. I recently turned 50. I am proud to say that I feel and look better than I did in my 30’s.
I have watched Chris’s business grow and prosper. I have seen him gradually hire other trainers as his client load increased. I was thrilled when he opened his own business, Personally Fit. I am also happy that others can experience and enjoy the same results that I have by working with Chris and his professional staff at Personally Fit.

I started with Kevin at Personally Fit in February 2005. I have worked out before at other health clubs and with other personal trainers, but was never able to stay committed to more than 6 weeks to 2 months. Kevin has been able to keep me focused on my goals and 7 months later my body fat has been reduced over 5% and I am still showing up twice a week. Kevin has also helped me work through a couple of injuries and not get discouraged and quit. I would recommend Kevin and Personally Fit to anyone. Oh boy, do I wish I could say that after a little over one year that my body has been transformed into a ravishing, shapely, and youthful figure due to my dedication to exercise and diet. It is with true regret that I must admit I am a flawed individual who has worked toward better health but my wonderful trainer, Kevin, has not been able to make me obey in the area of eating. Although I am his favorite client (or so I tell him!) I am possibly not his most transformed specimen. When I look over my before and after statistics I remain about the same weight and my dress size has not decreased significantly. However, I have seen progress in several areas. Some examples: my stamina during the workouts, my increased abilities, and my overall fitness has improved a great deal. I joined Personally Fit when my back was a major problem in my life and I am proud to say that I have fewer and fewer problems after my first few months of exercise. Kevin has provided me with a challenging workout that varies from session to session to keep my interested as well as to increase my strength. He pushes me even when I whine and say I think I am not feeling well, he encourages me to just try and before I know it I am finishing the entire workout. I am so grateful for his patience with me. My body my not be significantly smaller but it is indeed much firmer and much more fit than it was when I began the journey.

I started working out with William Barnes in May of 2004. He was recommended to me by my physician. I had started an exercise program on my own, walking and Pilates, but felt I had gone as far as I could by myself. When I began my training sessions with William, I was wearing a size 14, and now I wear a size 6. I feel so much better, not only physically, but mentally.
